Fall of “Apolitics” Movement: Is Jamaat Returning to Power Alongside BNP and Shibir?

News Report:
Dhaka, October 16, 2025 — The recent decline of the so-called “apolitics” or non-political movement has sparked new speculation across Bangladesh’s political landscape. As the wave of apolitical youth movements weakens, political analysts are observing a renewed rise in activity from traditional Islamist parties — particularly Jamaat-e-Islami, and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir — in alliance with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Sources within the opposition suggest that Jamaat is gradually rebuilding its grassroots network and positioning itself strategically for a possible return to mainstream politics. Reports from several districts indicate increased coordination between BNP and Jamaat activists in protests and organizational programs.

Political observers note that the “apolitical” slogan, popular among the younger generation in recent years, failed to bring long-term unity or structure. With public frustration over inflation, unemployment, and governance issues growing, Jamaat and BNP appear to be filling the political vacuum with organized campaigns and renewed outreach.

However, critics warn that the re-emergence of Jamaat and its student front could deepen divisions in the country’s political scene. The ruling party has also raised concerns, alleging that BNP-Jamaat are using student movements and online platforms to regain influence.

While the political atmosphere remains tense, one thing seems clear: the fall of apolitics has reignited the old political forces. Whether Jamaat truly returns to power, or merely gains temporary momentum, will depend on how effectively they can transform growing discontent into lasting political strength.
