Dhaka, October 16, 2025 — In a major step toward modernizing its air defense system, Bangladesh is reportedly finalizing deals to purchase advanced fighter jets from four different countries. According to defense sources, the initiative aims to strengthen the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) and enhance the country’s overall defense capability amid growing regional tensions.

The plan includes the acquisition of cutting-edge multirole fighter aircraft such as the J-10C from China, along with other advanced jets being considered from the United States, France, and Turkey. This multi-nation procurement strategy reflects Bangladesh’s intention to diversify its defense partnerships and reduce dependency on a single source of military equipment.
High-level defense officials have hinted that the new fleet will significantly improve Bangladesh’s air strike capability, surveillance, and border protection efficiency. The J-10C, known for its agility, powerful radar system, and advanced air-to-air and air-to-ground missile compatibility, is expected to play a central role in this modernization plan.
Military analysts believe this move is part of Bangladesh’s long-term “Forces Goal 2030” — a strategic modernization program designed to equip the armed forces with next-generation technology. The acquisition of fighter jets from multiple countries also underscores Dhaka’s effort to maintain a balanced foreign policy while strengthening national security.
While the government has not disclosed the total cost or delivery timeline, officials have assured that the procurement process will prioritize both performance and affordability.
If finalized, the new fleet of fighter jets will mark one of the most significant upgrades in Bangladesh’s military history, enhancing its ability to “neutralize any threat” and maintain stability in the region.
